Paperpile Beta

Update: 09/26/11: We have finished our first beta tests. Thanks to all of you who provided valuable feedback. Although many of you use Paperpile successfully on a daily basis, we were not entirely happy with the overall experience in particular under Windows. That's why we decided to discontinue updates on the current released version and focus on a new product that provides an optimal experience for all our users.

We will announce any updates on our mailing list (sign up here: paperpile.com)

Although not updated any more, the downloads will remain active so feel free to try Paperpile and send us your ideas/suggestions for your ideal reference manager.

Important

Although fully usable, this release is still a beta version so things might break. Please read the section "Known issues" and backup your library data (folder Library/Application Support/Paperpile on OS X and .paperpile on Linux.

Installation

OS X

  1. Download the application package
  2. Double click on the package to unpack it.
  3. Move the Paperpile application into your "Application" folder

Paperpile currently runs on 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Only 64bit architectures are supported at this time.

Paperpile will save your library data in Library/Application Support/Paperpile and your PDFs and supplementary files in Documents/Paperpile.

Linux

If you are upgrading from version 0.4.3 to 0.5 please backup your .paperpile folder first.

  1. Download the tbz package
  2. Extract the package anywhere you like by double clicking on it or run tar -jxf paperpile-x.x-linux-xx.tbz
  3. Run the paperpile executable

Paperpile will save your personal data in ~/.paperpile.

Updating/Uninstalling

To install updates, go to the Dashboard, click "Check for updates" and follow the instructions.

You can un-install Paperpile at any time by deleting the installation directory.

Known Issues

Again, this is a beta version which still contains bugs. You may encounter the following issues in the current version:

  • PDF search fails although you have access to the article / a PDF is not recognized although it is in PubMed or Google Scholar. We are continuously optimizing these algorithms and hope to improve them with your "real life" data. Please use the "Send Error Report" to get things fixed quickly.
  • A complete list of known bugs can be found here, but don't hesitate to submit bug reports to our forums or support@paperpile.com even though we might already have tracked it.
